OK, premise is one we have seen before. The main character is a former Marine Recon guy who now lives on a boat and main bums around on shore for a few weeks to make a little money before heading back out to sea. He gets mixed up in trying to save a buddy, and things go from there.

This book is narrated in first person. Normally I hate that and usually it leads to a writer just sort of listing what he did one thing after another, and worse getting into the heads of all the people he should not really be able to have insight into.

This book's narrator is low key enough so that even though he is a bad ass he is not running around smacking everyone and killing people left and right. He is pretty even tempered and good hearted.

There are also lots of other characters and a few sub plots. The main character works a part time job at a bar owned by his girlfriend. Unfortunately her husband knows what is going on and she does not care, as she knows he too is unfaithful. The three of them often run into each other at the bar, so there is that whole story line. There is also the main character's interactions with law enforcement, others who work at the bar, and the people who work in the marina.

Best of all the writing is smooth and detailed. This is not a list of one ass kicking or shootout after another. There are interesting characters and a mystery to solve, that becomes a little more complex than it seems.

The drug running bad guys are a little cliched, but it would not really make sense to develop them as anything more than the brutes they are. Probably people high (no pun here) in the drug trade and people who work for them are not humorous and casual when it comes to business.

A fun read with some mystery and a few semi-violent encounters here and there and a bit of the military guys stick together stuff, but no B.S. politicking for either side.

There is a bit of sex. Let's just say his girlfriend is a frequent flyer!! But nothing raunchy or so descriptive you have to worry about it. Not a lot of bad language either.

Readable and fun. Give it a shot if this kind of book appeals to you. In some ways it is familiar ground, but still enjoyable.

I enjoyed this book because it had plenty of action and enough twists to keep it interesting and I look forward to the next in the series.

This is the first book in a new series and author for me. I like the flow of the multiple story lines and the conscience of Chase Gordon, and ex Marine. I'm not too crazy about his rationalization of his love life, but none of us are perfect. Overall an enjoyable read.

A good Florida yesteryear case, and I liked the characters who seemed to be normal humans. Knowledgeable descriptions of SCUBA diving. I’ll buy the next installment in the series

I love a story with an ending and this one had several. Will be reading more. Fast paced refreshing and believable.

Cap Daniels should sue Douglas Pratt for copying his storyline. I would not recommend this book. Not a thriller at all.

4.0 out of 5 stars Gripping/expensive

Main character Chase Gordon has huge potential just need to learn more about his past military career its glossed over other than he’s an ex marine. Love his lifestyle and the plot is gripping and original. My only gripe is the price £12.99 for a paperback that’s printed by amazon in the UK ??
Most top authors are half that price. If I want to read all 5 books in the series that’s £65 !!!!
I’ve raised this with the author he’s looking into it. Not a problem if you want ebook but I like a paperback 🙂

Can't quite put my finger on reason but I did enjoy the story. That's what's important for the book and I look forward to more "Chase Gordon" adventures.
