A Rainy Night in Georgia
By AJ Basinski
It is October 1969. After five years, the war in Vietnam continues to divide the United States. Private Perry Morrocco, an antiwar activist, is charged with the brutal, bloody murder of Sergeant Eustice Benson in Fort Daley, Georgia, named after a Confederate Civil War general and whose statue guards the Fort's main entrance gate. Although he is facing the death penalty if convicted in a court martial, he insists that he wants to be represented by a fellow basic trainee, Private Frank Grabowski. Grabowski is a recent law school graduate who has never tried a single case. His only trial training is watching reruns of the Perry Mason television show.
